 A bit more about Heather

Hey, I’m Heather 👋

I’m a clinical counsellor based in Nelson, BC, and the person behind The Lounge Room. I’ve got a BA in Psychology from UVic and a Master of Counselling from CityU - plus a handful of random letters that look a lot like alphabet soup after my name (MC, CCC, and soon RCC). If you’re wondering what all those mean, I’ve broken it down in the FAQs.

I started The Lounge Room because I wanted therapy to feel a little less clinical and a lot more human. My approach is grounded, collaborative, and sprinkled with humour - the kind that comes from knowing life is just... a lot sometimes. I’m not here to fix you or give you five-step plans. I’m here to meet you where you’re at, with curiosity, honesty, and zero judgment.

When I’m not counselling, you’ll probably find me running (I recently joined the cliché of thirty-somethings who process their existential dread by training for a marathon), blasting Oasis (they’re so much more than Wonderwall and if you disagree, I'll convince you otherwise), or admiring my favourite piece of decor in my home - a Big Mouth Billy Bass who, yes, still sings “Take Me to the River.”

Mostly, I just love real conversations - the kind that meander between heavy and hilarious, awkward and profound. That’s the space I try to hold in counselling too: one where you can show up exactly as you are, breathe a little easier, and maybe even surprise yourself with just how good it can feel to just be.
